We know that everyone hates road closures, even more so with all the drainage works currently taking place.
This year will be slightly different and we’re very grateful to everyone involved in allowing Fair Week 2026 to have these events. We’ve had to adjust the routes of the Glove Hanging, Lantern Parade and Carnival Procession so as to cause as little disruption as possible.
This year, we will have rolling road closures as the processions move through town. We will keep these closures as short as possible, but the safety of everyone involved comes first.
There will also be parking restrictions in force on Wednesday 22 July between 15:30 and 22:00 on Fore Street. During these times, there will be no waiting and no loading at any time on Fore Street.
On Saturday 25 July between 15:30 and 19:30 hours, there will be additional parking restrictions in force. During these times there will be no waiting and no loading at any time except for carnival traffic on Stentiford Hill, Fore Street, Duncombe Street, Belle Vue Road, Church Street, Bridge Street, Embankment Road and The Promenade to the junction with Highfield Drive.
Quay Car Park will also be closed from the evening of Friday 17 July 2026 to Sunday 26 July 2026 to allow the Fun Fair to be set up. Alternative parking is available at the Cattle Market and Fore Street car parks a short walk away.
